For the last year I have been artist in residence at Elmfield Hall, Gatty Park, Accrington hosted by community organisation Community Solutions North West as part of the work of commissioning body Super Slow Way. As part of Fabrications, a celebration of textiles and industry in Pennine Lancashire there are two opportunities to visit the project in September 2017. More details here.
Resist exhibition at Bradford Cathedral Artspace 30.09.17 - 28.10.17
'In September 1917, 3000 women marched for peace in central Bradford, a demonstration against the ongoing carnage of the war. Bradford-based artist, Claire Wellesley-Smith, has reimagined this walk and has researched the activities of the Bradford Women’s Humanity League, who organised the march. In her textile pieces, Wellesley-Smith has used plants collected around the route to produce colour on found materials; multiple stitches each offering a mark of resistance.'
I will be speaking about this work at the cathedral on Friday 6th October at 7pm. All are welcome.
